Water clock, an opportunity to calculate integrals

This article proposes an investigation on clepsydrae (water-clocks) for pupils of higher secondary school course. The integral calculus is the magic key to discovering how the containers geometry determines this ancient mechanism's operation.

En el presente artículo se aborda, de una manera informal, los orígenes de la teoría del azar, presentándose algunos hitos y problemas históricamente relevantes. El problema del cálculo de extremos relativos se ofrece habitualmente como la primera aplicación de la función derivada, pero históricamente existen reglas y métodos que preceden a este concepto. Nos preguntamos si el concepto debe ir forzosamente por delante de estas reglas simples y fácilmente justificables.

Normally it is used to introduce maximum-minimum problems as the first application of the derivative, but historically there are rules and methods preceding this concept. I wonder whether the concept has to go before these simple and easily demonstrable rules.

Mathematics is the <greguería> of reason

Sometimes they are close to literature of the absurd. Mathematics are always around us and they are part of our daily life, so they are also part of ur language and literature. In this article we investigate what kind of maths we usually us in our conversations and we will walk through greguerías in which we can find mathematical clues.
